About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Managing Counsel to join a major organisation operating in the energy transition sector. This senior legal role oversees all legal aspects of a specialist infrastructure business, with a strong focus on connection agreements, dispute resolution, and the delivery of large-scale infrastructure and renewable energy projects.
The role is based in Sydney with a hybrid working arrangement and reports to the organisation’s General Counsel. It includes leadership responsibility for a small legal team.
Key Responsibilities
  • Leading the negotiation, drafting, and execution of connection agreements and related contracts supporting the energy transition
  • Providing strategic legal advice on contract structuring and risk management for complex infrastructure and renewable energy projects
  • Advising on contract administration throughout project delivery, including variations, disputes, and potential litigation
  • Engaging proactively with internal and external stakeholders from project inception through to completion
  • Managing, mentoring and developing a team of legal professionals
  • Identifying, assessing, and managing complex commercial and legal risks
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant Commonwealth and State legislation, policies, and regulatory frameworks
  • Delivering commercial legal advice across energy law (including regulatory frameworks), competition law, planning and environmental law, and employment law
Key Requirements
  • Admitted (or eligible for admission) as a solicitor in Australia
  • Minimum 15+ years’ experience in major projects, construction law, and the energy sector
  • Demonstrated expertise in connection agreements and large-scale infrastructure projects
  • Experience across both private practice and in-house environments (preferred)
  • Proven people leadership and mentoring capability
  • Strong commercial drafting, review, and negotiation skills
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and organisational skills
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently in a fast-paced environment
