Senior Payroll Officer 

This part-time, standalone Senior Payroll Officer position manages full-cycle payroll for 250 employees across weekly, fortnightly, and monthly cycles using MitreFinch T&A system, during a 6-month FTC

Role Overview

Hybrid role (2 office days, 1 WFH; Mon-Wed) in a small finance team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Payroll Processing: End-to-end payroll processing - taxation and superannuation calculations required
  • Compliance & Reporting:  ATO submissions, reconcile superannuation, adhere to Fair Work Act, Modern Awards, NES; prepare EOY payment summaries, BAS, workers' comp declarations.
  • Employee Management: Handle onboarding/termination payroll, respond to queries, maintain confidentiality; manage leave balances, long service leave projections.
  • Reconciliations & Audits: Monthly/EOY bank/payroll reconciliations; support internal/external audits; track fixed-term contract implications.
  • System & Ad-Hoc: Optimise MitreFinch for T&A, self-service portals; produce reports; assist finance team on payroll-related queries amid transition.
Essential Qualifications, Experience and Skills
  • 4-5 years of experience of payroll processing 
  • Advanced proficiency in T&A systems and payroll systems
  • Technical: Excel (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables for analysis), payroll legislation expertise (Fair Work, ATO rulings).
  • Soft: High autonomy, attention to detail, deadline-driven (e.g., tight handover); strong communication for CFO/stakeholder updates.
  • Analytical: Error resolution, variance analysis, forecasting payroll liabilities.
