Client summary

With a large and diverse workforce nationally, my client is seeking to appoint an ER Specialist into the team. Ideally an Employment Lawyer seeking to make the move into a more practitioner focused role. Solid grounding in Employer Associations is desired, someone who keeps ‘finger on the pulse’ and is immersed with strong advocates and practitioners. This is a purist ER requirement.
 
Role summary

As an ER Specialist, you will:
  • Provide 1st/2nd line support to Line Managers and HR across the enterprise. Typically, lending expertise to areas such as: transfer of business, workplace investigations, outsourcing, tribunals etc.
  • Be responsible for effectively supporting the Employee Relations Team to ensure professional, comprehensive, business focused, and timely Employee Relations advice and support is provided to Managers and People Business Partners.
  • Be an expert in the field of employee relations and will be responsible for providing specialist, expert advice, support and guidance on high risk, highly complex people ER issues to relevant Managers, Employees and People Business Partners.
  • Be skilled in assessing and advising on commercial risk and will be expected to proactively review ER trends, work in partnership with the Business Partnering Team and identify ER solutions that will continuously improve the management of ER challenges across the business.
  • Manage complex and/or long-term sickness cases up to and including capability dismissals and act as key stakeholder with our Occupational Health supplier
  • Manage, track and document ER cases, providing ongoing, timely advice and guidance to the business to ensure cases conclude without delay
  • Working with the business on organisational change that may result in individual or collective consultation and/or redundancy ensuring best practice requirements and commercial imperatives are balanced so that ER risk is minimised.
There is an opportunity to step into a leadership role, guiding a small team of advisors navigating complex ER issues such as: absence, grievance, disciplinary, appeals, health issues, discrimination, harassment claims, tribunals etc.

Experience Required
  • Proven experience within an ER specialist or ER Lawyer role and/or HR operational experience in a fast-paced environment with proven employee relations experience.
  • Experience of managing medium-high risk ER cases to conclusion.
  • Good understanding and application of employment legislation.
  • Strong communication and listening skills, being comfortable in coaching, advising, and influencing managers dealing with ER issues.
  • Ability to assess risks and make fair decisions that meet the needs of the business.
  • Ability to influence management decisions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to quickly develop a rapport and strong working relationships across all levels.
  • Good commercial understanding and a genuine interest about the business.
