Senior Manager / Director

Job description

Boutique firm | Genuine progression to partnership | Flexible, tech-driven culture

This is a genuine hire for a future partner - this one partner firm wants to become a two partner firm in the next 3 years!

Our client, a progressive boutique accounting firm based in Newcastle, is experiencing strong growth and looking for an ambitious and commercially minded professional to join their close-knit team. With a team of 9 (soon to be 11), this is an exciting time to come on board as the firm expands into new service areas and strengthens its advisory offering.

This is a firm that punches well above its weight — with an exceptional tech stack, streamlined processes, and a client base focused on advisory and business growth, not just compliance.

If you want to work with great clients, help shape the direction of the business, and have a clear, structured pathway to partnership, this could be your next step.

About the Firm:
Our client is a boutique Chartered Accounting firm providing high-quality business advisory and accounting services to a variety of Australian businesses. They focus on clients who value proactive, hands-on support — not just tax compliance.
The firm has recently welcomed a new team member to help expand into app advisory and outsourced CFO work — key growth areas. Their goal is to continue refining their client base to work exclusively with their ‘ideal’ clients — business owners who value collaboration, innovation, and insight.

The Opportunity:
This is a pivotal role where you’ll manage your own client portfolio, mentor others, and contribute to strategic initiatives within the firm.
Your key responsibilities will include:
  • Managing a dedicated group of business clients and acting as their trusted advisor.
  • Reviewing financial statements, tax returns, BAS, IAS and STP finalisations.
  • Mentoring and supporting junior staff with workflow oversight and technical guidance.
  • Maintaining a commercial mindset across productivity, WIP, and client performance.
  • Helping shape firm processes and contributing to growth and innovation projects.
Depending on your level, this position can be tailored from Manager up to Director, with a structured career plan and defined KPIs to progress through to partnership.

About You:
You’re a technically strong, client-focused accountant who thrives on autonomy and enjoys building relationships. You’ll bring:
  • 8+ years’ experience in public practice (or readiness to step into a senior role).
  • A degree in Accounting or Commerce, and CAANZ/CPA membership.
  • Proven ability to manage client relationships and review compliance work.
  • Experience with Xero, XPM, FYI Docs, Karbon, and MYOB.
  • An interest in leveraging technology and app integrations for better client outcomes.
  • Strong communication and time management skills.
Why You’ll Love This Firm:
  • Partnership Pathway: A transparent, KPI-based path to equity with a tiered buy-in structure.
  • Career Growth: Opportunity to shape your role, influence direction, and contribute to strategic decisions.
  • Flexibility: Hybrid work options and flexible hours — the firm prioritises balance over burnout.
  • Supportive Team: A well-resourced admin team (four strong) allows professional staff to focus on high-value work.
  • Culture of Strengths: The firm tailors opportunities to your interests and career goals.
  • Competitive Package: Starting salary of minimum $150K + super (depending on experience) plus KPI-based rewards and a 10% referral bonus on any client introductions.
If you’re looking to join a modern, forward-thinking firm where your ideas are valued and your growth genuinely supported, we’d love to hear from you.
