Director of Fundraising

Client:

NextSense, formerly Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children (RIDBC), is a not-for-profit organisation supporting people who are deaf, hard of hearing, blind or have low vision across Australia. A registered NDIS provider, NextSense works with children, adults, and their families to educate and create an individual program of care that meets unique needs.
NextSense has undergone significant transformation recently through re-branding and the acquisition of smaller organisations, positioning themselves as a national leader and best in class within their respective field.
The vision and shared goal of all employees and affiliates is to break down the barriers, between education and disability, through the provision of critical services, integrated development programs, community partnerships and ongoing research.
 
Responsibilities:

NextSense relies significantly on fundraising and community support to be able to continue to make a difference in the lives of people with vision and/or hearing loss. The Director of Fundraising is critical to ensuring this revenue stream serves the end goal of the organisation. Key to this role is growing awareness of NextSense as a best-in-class not-for-profit provider of health, education and disability services through cultivating strong corporate relationships and growing community support.

With a proven track record in executing large scale funding and development programs, the Director of Fundraising and Development will:
  • Collaborate with colleagues internally and across the sector to execute against the Board and SLT strategic priorities and 5-year strategic plan specific to our fundraising and development efforts
  • Build a team structure that delivers and exceeds against targets within a diversified funding approach model that is transparent and reportable
  • Develop and manage a multi-year fundraising and major gifts plan, which includes strategies, tactics, goals/benchmarks, investment recommendations, and budget focused on retaining and upgrading existing donors and significantly expanding donors at all levels
  • Align fundraising to our “go to market” strategies with an innovative and creative approach to tried and tested fundraising initiatives
  • Clarify our fundraising priorities and how they inform our prospect identification processes, developing and maintaining the ability to recognise opportunities to match a new/emerging prospect with a high-priority funding need
  • Lead data management and reporting, including tracking fundraising metrics for staff and management, budget reporting for these programs
  • Collaborates with the directors to plan the creation and production of communication pieces to support ongoing and special solicitation efforts effective stewardship of past philanthropy
  • Working in close partnership with Marketing and Communications, promote fundraising initiatives to ensure that fundraising activities are collaborative and fully integrated into other departments across the organisation
  • Inspire and lead relentlessly to achieve agreed budgets, targets, and operating plans in consultation with the executive team
  • Build a culture of “giving” among our workforce that is internally focused and externally leveraged, in time, talent or treasure.
  • Build strong relationships with key external and relevant government bodies to advocate and secure funding and support from federal, state, and local governments
  • Build strong relationships with key external and internal stakeholders and to build a strong supporter network of commercial and corporate partnerships
  • Lead, manage, motivate, and empower the fundraising team to ensure they are professionally developed and supported to ensure a positive work dynamic and to achieve team and organisational outcomes
  • Provide quality management and special purpose reports for Management and NextSense Board as required
  • Ensure that all fundraising initiatives and activities are compliance with all relevant legislation, including the 1991 Charitable Fundraising Act (NSW)
  • Responsible for the NextSense licence and fundraising compliance obligations
  • Supporting change management business activities to a variety of stakeholders
  • Work collaboratively to implement organisational strategy across functions, as respected Executive team member.
  • Values aligned fundraising programs are critical to ensuring we are partnering and driving activity in ways that does not jeopardise our brand, mission or values.
 
Skills & Experience:
  • 10+ years’ experience relevant to the role.
  • Degree in Business or related discipline
  • Extensive experience and success in managing fundraising teams in a large-scale, diverse, service delivery organisation preferably with multidisciplinary experience including:
  • Track record as a highly regarded and influential professional in FRD networks, disability, health services or related sector
  • Have extensive knowledge and experience in fund raising techniques, particularly major gift fundraising
  • Strong leadership and influencer experience who is well connected in commercial and philanthropic networks
  • Ability to translate complex information into meaningful content for a variety of stakeholders
  • Well-developed stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence at all levels
  • Ability to navigate multiple competing priorities and diplomatically manage internal and external stakeholder expectations
