They are seeking a Senior Associate/Special Counsel to join their insurance practice in Sydney.  The successful candidate will work closely with two Partners on general insurance, commercial litigation and dispute resolution matters.

The role will include a mix of contentious and coverage advisory work, ranging from high value coverage disputes for professional institutions, financial institutions, corporate service providers, directors and offices (D&O), to handling high-profile litigation in the Supreme and Federal Courts.  The role will also include advising on and acting for trade credit insurers, which will involve working closely with our client’s international office.  This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in this stream of work and mentor Associates in the wider team.

The team in Sydney have extensive experience working with both domestic and international insurers across multiple lines of insurance work, with a particular depth of expertise in professional indemnity, financial institutions, medical malpractice, casualty, directors and officers (D&O), public and product liability, property and construction, energy, cyber, marine, transport and employment.

Clients include general insurers and reinsurers, Lloyds syndicates, global composites and self-insured PLCs.

The ideal candidate will possess:
  • 6 – 10 years’ experience from a reputable defendant insurance or commercial litigation team;
  • Prior trade credits exposure is desirable but any Supreme or Federal Court litigation experience would be advantageous;
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • Methodical and organised approach to file management including in relation to the delegation and mentorship of junior lawyers;
  • Ability to manage own time, excellent organisational skills and attention to detail;
  • High level of professionalism and integrity, displaying the highest standard of professional ethics.
