The Investigation Officer will be responsible for handling complaints and conducting investigations. A suitable person should be able to, under limited direction:

  • Managing a large caseload of privacy complaints and investigations
  • Making administrative decisions under the Privacy Act
  • Conducting conciliation conferences and otherwise resolving privacy disputes between complaint parties, mainly by phone
  • Providing recommendations to senior management about how privacy issues can best be addressed in line with policy


To be successful in this application, you will have the following attributes:
  • Have excellent communication and dispute resolution skills
  • Have excellent analytical ability, and an ability to apply complex legislative and policy frameworks to a dispute
  • Hold legal or other relevant qualifications, or otherwise be comfortable working with legislation, case law, precedent and policy
  • Be able to engage effectively with a diverse range of people, including members of the community, business people and government agencies
  • Be able to respond well to difficult client interactions
  • Enjoy working in a fast‑paced and flexible team environment, in which you have full personal responsibility for your own matters
